| Jimmy Valentine was working in the prison shoe shop when the guard escorted him to the wardens office. There he received a pardon from the governor(thanks to his influential friends), a $ 5 bill, some bad-fitting clothes and some advice. “Now, Valentine,” said the warden, “Stop cracking safes and live straight. Youre not a bad fellow.” “Me?”said Jimmy innocently, “Why, I never cracked a safe in my life!”The warden laughed and gave him a cigar. Jimmy walked straight to a restaurant to eat broiled chicken and drink white wine. Then he smoked a much better cigar than the wardens. He took a train to a small town where he stepped into a local bar and asked the bartender for a key. |
